Homework #5

As I was reading this article about Dustin Stanton's interview, it seemed very interesting on what questions Dustin was being asked and what his responses were to those questions. Dustin started off talking about how his career all started, what techniques he uses, and the excitement of his job. In his high school days, Dustin knew he wanted to be an art major. Later on, he was hired to many different companies and productions to help work on all projects. After all the companies he was with, Dustin decided to be his own manager and work on his hours he wanted for himself. His creativity is very unique and successful to this day.

Homework #4

Dave Perillo, aka Montygog, had a very interesting interview. Dave got into illustration by watching cartoon shows like Scooby Doo, Looney Toons, GI Joe, etc. Dave got inspired by Walt Disney, Charles Schulz, and Jim Henson. When Dave starts a project, he sometimes does sketches on paper or computer, or he'll just get right into the project. The program he does his projects on is Adobe Photoshop and he has been doing it for 13 years now. His advice to every designer is to keep creating.

Nike's Chief of Design Doodles All Day response

In this article, I really came across to a lot of information that was interesting about this guy. I really thought it was cool how he described his childhood and how he got offered to work at Nike as a young kid but for the future. He mentions how he described his dyslexia issue, how dyslexia was his first language, and with the creativity he has with designing. Finally, he pointed out his occupation and how it all works is what shocked me.

Rethinking the way we sit down video response

Rethinking the way we sit down: Niel Diffirient

This video is a TED Talks video about a man named Niel Diffrient who loved airplanes as a kid and for many years after that. Later on, Niel became a Aeronautical Engineer and then changed his path into being a chair designer. The only reason why he wanted to become chair designer because he wanted to start helping more people everyday. I think this video was pretty interesting to watch because designing has a huge role in your imagination and it amazes people more by each day.

"How to Ruin a Great Design" paragraph response

Personally in my opinion, I completely agree with Ms. Rawsthorn's opinion on how road signs should have a more simplistic design on each and everyone of them. A sign should have decent sized lettering so that the drivers attention can focus towards the main point. Not everyone is perfect at making designs, but I think the designers need to double check with their team and see what mistakes they did wrong before putting it out on streets, roads, and highways. On the other note, I do/don't agree with Ms. Rawsthorns opinion on the change of the UPS logo. Going towards the new logo, I do understand that UPS could've done better but it makes it look good for their company today. Finally, I don't think you can just accuse one person for a bad design even with not enough expierience. It all goes to the companies who make the road signs, logos, etc.
